Message oil is definitely used to cool the engine. besides lubricating the reciprical mass, the oil that the squirters squirt onto the pistons are specifically designed to remove heat from the combustion chamber. just read corky bells book maximum boost. he speaks about how that oil is there to remove heat and prevent detonation.
